March Arts Prelude

As one might expect of the Smokies, there are several arts related events coming up in March! Here are a few I have found!

Sevier County Student Arts ShowRight Now- Saturday, March 6th, 2010

The 17th Annual Sevier County Student Art Show

This delightful art show, put on by the Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts, is already on display in the Painting Studio, and will be there until March 6. This year’s show includes entries from students of all ages in the following categories: drawing, painting, sculpture, photography and glass. The exhibit is open for your viewing pleasure, and is free of charge, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM and Tuesday and Thursday 8:30 AM to 8:00 PM. Walters State- Romeo and JulietFriday, March 5th– Sunday, March 7th, 2010

Romeo and Juliet- Presented by Walters State Community College

This classic love story will be presented by Walters State Community College the first weekend in March! Starring in the roles of Romeo and Juliet are Casey Lemons and Aly Patterson. This tragic, yet beautiful love story contains something for everyone, from the obvious romance, to beautifully choreographed ballet numbers, to fencing! Friday and Saturday’s performances begin at 7:30 and Sunday’s performance will be a matinee at 2:30. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for students! Smoky Mountain Quilt FestWednesday, March 10th – Sunday, March 14th, 2010

The 16th Annual A Mountain Quilt Fest

What would Appalachia be without its home crafted quilts? For our expert quilters comes a chance to showcase their work in the Quilt Show! And of course for those who just want to look, the Quilt Show will provide a glorious array of quilts from all over the nation! There will be more than ten categories, including the following: Large Professional, Small Professional, Quilted for hire, Hand Quilted Bed Quilts, Machine Quilted Bed Quilts, Non-Traditional Quilts, Large Quilts, Medium Quilts, Small Quilts, and Youth Quilts. Smoky Mountain Fiber Arts FestivalFriday, March 19th – Sunday, March 21st, 2010

Smoky Mountain Fiber Arts Festival

“The festival will include fiber animal exhibitions, contests, an arts exhibition, workshops, educational demonstrations of spinning, weaving, needlecrafts, dyeing, and many other fiber processes, hands-on projects with children and adults, a Fashion Show, Fiber Arts Market of local artists’ work and fiber craft supplies, and information about local fiber activities, groups, businesses, and instructional resources.” It is being hosted by the Townsend Artisan Guild and Fine Arts Blount ! If you wish to sign up for classes, please do so as soon as possible to allow the instructors to gather the needed materials!
